CHAMPS understands that CHC personnel often have a multitude of responsibilities that make attending live events difficult. To help overcome this barrier, CHAMPS offers archived versions of our distance learning events, which are typically archived online for one year beyond the live presentation date. Please note that continuing education credit is typically NOT available for archived CHAMPS distance learning events unless otherwise indicated below.

CLINICAL AND QUALITY DISTANCE LEARNING EVENTS

MATERNAL HEALTH LEARNING SERIES: SUPPORTING AND ADVANCING PERINATAL HEALTH

Event Overview: This series, created in partnership with the HRSA Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs (IEA) Region VIII Office, featured speakers from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center (MPATTC), the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), and the March of Dimes. Health center care team members discussed the latest in maternal mortality and morbidity data as well as the impact of substance use disorders and perinatal mental health concerns in new mothers. Screening recommendations, clinical tools, and resources were featured.

Reducing Stigma in Pregnant People with Substance Use Disorders
Maridee Shogren, DNP, CNM, CLC

Session Description: Stigma associated with substance use disorders (SUDs) is a significant barrier to detection and treatment efforts. People with SUDs who are pregnant and/or parenting are particularly impacted and experience many different forms of stigma and adverse encounters when seeking healthcare services. Strategies to reduce barriers related to stigmatizing attitudes and practices was addressed.

Perinatal Mental Health Awareness, Screening and Treatment

Session Description: This session brings awareness about common perinatal mental health concerns often experienced by persons during pregnancy and in the first year postpartum. Information about validated screening tools appropriate for use in various settings was discussed, along with a brief overview of treatment options. This session also included an overview of two Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) bundles addressing perinatal mental health and perinatal substance use disorders.

The Role of Health Centers in Addressing Maternity Care Deserts

Session Description: Dr. Cherot discussed the March of Dimes’ 85-year history of collaborations and partnerships with communities and patients. She discussed the 2022 edition of the March of Dimes Maternity Care Deserts Report, including the new sections on the role Community Health Centers and family practice providers play in addressing the crisis.

Session Description: RiverStone Health’s Live Well Center provides an interdisciplinary approach to weight loss, diabetes, and nutrition education. The program uses integrated care to manage weight, labs, exercise routines, and more. This presentation discussed the unique aspects of the services provided by the Live Well Center and its approach to chronic disease management.

Coal Country Community Health Center (ND): Remote Patient Monitoring for Chronic Disease Management

HEALTH EQUITY LEARNING EVENTS

CCHN/CHAMPS 2023 HEALTH EQUITY LEARNING SERIES
This two-part Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN)/CHAMPS Health Equity Learning Series is the final installation in a multi-year partnership that examines foundational topics in health center equity and highlights a path towards accessible healthcare for all communities. The 2023 webcasts were designed to help participants equip themselves with actionable strategies to progress care for their patient base.

Target Audience: The presentations in the series are intended for any health center and PCA staff from various positions, both clinical and non-clinical.

Strategies for Building Cultural Competency and Addressing Bias
Jason Vitello, Public Health Institute at Denver Health, Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition, and Colorado Public Health Association

Event Overview: This first session examined concepts of cultural competency and bias as a continual process that individual health centers can work towards. This webinar offered insight into the structures and systems that cause health disparities and provided strategies and conversation points to address cultural responsiveness, cultural humility, and cultural representation within health centers.

Event Overview: This event was a moderated panel discussion with past Health Equity Learning Series speakers to highlight the importance of including special population groups in your health equity programming. The topics discussed allowed healthcare workers to better understand the challenges faced by patients who are overweight and/or disabled and to obtain ideas, tools, and strategies to prepare them to offer culturally appropriate and sensitive care to their patients.

WORKFORCE DISTANCE LEARNING EVENTS

HOW TO COMPLETE THE 2024 REGION VIII HEALTH CENTER SALARY SURVEY TOOL

Event Overview: This 90-minute webcast will provide information and tips to help Region VIII health centers submit data for the 2024 Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, Turnover, and Vacancy Survey. CHAMPS will review both the survey instructions (PDF) and the survey tool (Excel), emphasizing key instructions while highlighting new 2024 features and addressing common errors. The presentation will be recorded for future reference.

Target Audience: Region VIII health center and Primary Care Association staff responsible for working on the 2024 Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, Turnover, and Vacancy Survey.

UNDERSTANDING AND UTILIZING STATISTICS FROM THE CHAMPS 2022 SALARY SURVEY PROJECT

Event Overview: The health centers of Region VIII make up a unique group of employers that benefit from analysis of their own workforce-related benchmarks and trends. During the spring and summer of 2022, CHAMPS undertook a salary, benefits, turnover, and vacancy survey of the region’s community, migrant, and homeless health centers, collecting compensation and workforce data from 50 organizations. This event will explain the history and methodology of the survey, highlight key changes from prior years, and review the contents and structure of the resulting reports. The presenter will also address identified trends in salaries and benefits, workforce metrics including vacancies, turnover, and challenging areas of recruitment and retention, and additional data relating to provider vs. support staffing ratios and provider productivity expectations.

Target Audience: Health center staff utilizing reports related to the CHAMPS 2022 Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, Turnover, and Vacancy Project (Salary/Benefits, Clinical Staffing, Provider Productivity Expectations, and Workforce Metrics).
