MATERNAL HEALTH LEARNING SERIES: SUPPORTING AND ADVANCING PERINATAL HEALTH
Event Overview: This series, created in partnership with the HRSA Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs (IEA) Region VIII Office, featured speakers from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center (MPATTC), the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), and the March of Dimes. Health center care team members discussed the latest in maternal mortality and morbidity data as well as the impact of substance use disorders and perinatal mental health concerns in new mothers. Screening recommendations, clinical tools, and resources were featured.
Reducing Stigma in Pregnant People with Substance Use Disorders

Session Description: Stigma associated with substance use disorders (SUDs) is a significant barrier to detection and treatment efforts. People with SUDs who are pregnant and/or parenting are particularly impacted and experience many different forms of stigma and adverse encounters when seeking healthcare services. Strategies to reduce barriers related to stigmatizing attitudes and practices was addressed.

Perinatal Mental Health Awareness, Screening and Treatment

Session Description: This session brings awareness about common perinatal mental health concerns often experienced by persons during pregnancy and in the first year postpartum. Information about validated screening tools appropriate for use in various settings was discussed, along with a brief overview of treatment options. This session also included an overview of two Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) bundles addressing perinatal mental health and perinatal substance use disorders.

Session Description: RiverStone Health’s Live Well Center provides an interdisciplinary approach to weight loss, diabetes, and nutrition education. The program uses integrated care to manage weight, labs, exercise routines, and more. This presentation discussed the unique aspects of the services provided by the Live Well Center and its approach to chronic disease management.

CCHN/CHAMPS 2023 HEALTH EQUITY LEARNING SERIES
This two-part Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN)/CHAMPS Health Equity Learning Series is the final installation in a multi-year partnership that examines foundational topics in health center equity and highlights a path towards accessible healthcare for all communities. The 2023 webcasts were designed to help participants equip themselves with actionable strategies to progress care for their patient base.
Target Audience: The presentations in the series are intended for any health center and PCA staff from various positions, both clinical and non-clinical.
Strategies for Building Cultural Competency and Addressing Bias

Event Overview: This first session examined concepts of cultural competency and bias as a continual process that individual health centers can work towards. This webinar offered insight into the structures and systems that cause health disparities and provided strategies and conversation points to address cultural responsiveness, cultural humility, and cultural representation within health centers.

UNDERSTANDING AND UTILIZING STATISTICS FROM THE CHAMPS 2022 SALARY SURVEY PROJECT

Event Overview: The health centers of Region VIII make up a unique group of employers that benefit from analysis of their own workforce-related benchmarks and trends. During the spring and summer of 2022, CHAMPS undertook a salary, benefits, turnover, and vacancy survey of the region’s community, migrant, and homeless health centers, collecting compensation and workforce data from 50 organizations. This event will explain the history and methodology of the survey, highlight key changes from prior years, and review the contents and structure of the resulting reports. The presenter will also address identified trends in salaries and benefits, workforce metrics including vacancies, turnover, and challenging areas of recruitment and retention, and additional data relating to provider vs. support staffing ratios and provider productivity expectations.
Target Audience: Health center staff utilizing reports related to the CHAMPS 2022 Region VIII Health Center Salary, Benefits, Turnover, and Vacancy Project (Salary/Benefits, Clinical Staffing, Provider Productivity Expectations, and Workforce Metrics).
